Title: "Beneath the Facade"
Song: Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish
Song: Birds of a Feather by Billie Eilish
This mixed-media poster employs an overprint technique to visually represent the imperfections and toxicity that can lie beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect relationship.
Inspired by Billie Eilish's song "Birds of a Feather," which critiques the suffocating nature of love-bombing, this piece challenges the romantic notion of love at all costs.
Interestingly enough, people assume this is a love song, focusing on the chorus alone but in reality admitted by Billie herself this was the most challenging song of the entire album since it sounds exaggeratedly sweet and pretty while, and quoting Billie herself, “I wanted it to feel a little bit toxic and a little bit like love bomb-y.”The deliberate choice of blue and pink hues serves as a visual paradox, juxtaposing the sadness and melancholy conveyed by blue with the romantic and innocent connotations of pink. The haunting phrase "Stay until I rot away" underscores the devastating consequences of prioritizing another's needs over one's own, ultimately leading to the erosion of one's identity and autonomy; literally letting what makes you beautiful fade away. I wanted to create a thought-provoking piece that invites the viewer to look beyond the façade of perfection and confront the darker realities of toxic relationships.
